Kedara is a website by Ruben Verweij on a wide variety of subjects. These are mainly notes to self on topics that interest me.

Kedara: about the name

The name 'Kedara' is a liberal transcription of the Sanskrit word केदार (kedāra) which has the following definitions[1]:

  1. A field or meadow, especially one (partly) under water.
  2. A basin for water around the roots of a tree.
  3. A bed in a garden or field.

I've chosen this name because of its main definition: a field or meadow. My last name is Verweij (I was born with the very similar last name van der Weij), which literally means 'of the meadow' in Dutch. I love the additional definitions of the word as well.

If you're very precise, you might argue that kedara is actually written as केदर in Sanskrit, which means[1]:

  1. Squint-eyed.
  2. The name of a plant (please contact me if you happen to know what exact type of plant this is!).
