The color of sunrise and sunset is caused by sunlight having to travel a greater distance through the atmosphere when it is near sunrise/sunset at a certain location on Earth. This causes a greater portion of the blue light to be scattered, leaving more red light. This effect is most visible at sunset, when there is often more dust in the atmosphere.
